How to popsplit in Agario: double splits, timing and mistakes

A real double popsplit in Blogar: the opponent bursts by a green virus and its fragments are captured

Play Agario

A popsplit is a move in Agar.io-style games where you split into an opponent next to a virus. The opponent absorbs a small part of your cell, grows, touches the virus and bursts. You then capture the resulting pieces. The GIF shows a double popsplit in Blogar: two consecutive splits, a burst and the final capture. It is a staged scene recorded with real Blogar physics.

What is this move called?

Players usually write popsplit or pop split. When the entry uses two quick splits, it is a double popsplit. The word “pop” refers to the opponent bursting on the virus.

The defining feature is that the opponent actually pops on the virus. Splitting twice and eating a smaller player immediately is a double split, but it is not a popsplit.

What you need for a popsplit by a virus

How to double popsplit: step by step

  1. Open practice. On Blogar’s homepage, press Play, choose Play with bots, then select Popsplits. You can repeat attempts without waiting for another player.
  2. Check the setup. Find the opponent by the green virus. Approach its cell so the virus sits beside it, rather than directly ahead of the centre of your large cell.
  3. Move into split range. Do not fire from too far away. You need to feed a smaller part into the bot while keeping the remaining mass close enough for the capture.
  4. Split twice in quick succession. The shown practice setup uses Q for a double split. Aim through the opponent and press Q when the path takes a fragment into it beside the virus.
  5. Finish the capture. The bot eats part of your cell, touches the virus and bursts. Immediately steer your remaining cells towards the pieces. A successful popsplit ends with eating them, rather than just causing a burst.

Watch the beginning again: first you approach, then split, then collect the result. Repeat that sequence while adjusting the key press by fractions of a second, rather than pressing split at random.

How to find popsplit timing

Use a simple reference point: the gap must be short enough for your split to reach the opponent, while your original large cell is still clear of the virus. Keep the cursor behind the opponent along the attack line. Double split as it enters range. The demonstrated approach takes less than five seconds; the useful key-press window is much shorter.

Agar.io versions and servers differ in speed, split limits and virus behaviour, so one fixed distance in screen pixels is unreliable. In Blogar’s practice room, first learn where the leading fragment touches the bot, then make sure your remaining cells can complete the capture.

Why your popsplit is not working

Popsplit, double split and the virus: what changes?

A split is one division used for a quick capture. A double split is two quick divisions along the attack line. A popsplit adds the virus interaction: the opponent first accepts your fragment, then bursts and becomes exposed. Without the opponent’s burst, the attempt is not a popsplit.

The virus is dangerous to the attacker too. Use its position relative to the opponent instead of steering straight at it. In the demonstration it sits beside the target, and the final capture happens after the bot splits apart.

Frequently asked questions

Which key performs a double popsplit in Blogar?

The practice example uses Q for two splits. Check your controls if you have changed the bindings.

Can you popsplit without a virus?

No. The opponent bursting on a virus is what distinguishes a popsplit from a normal split capture. Without it, you performed a different move.

Do you always need 2,000 mass against 1,000?

No. That ratio is from Blogar’s training example. In a live match, distance, fragment size, movement and server rules also affect the result.

Where should you practise?

Start with Popsplits under Play with bots. A repeatable position makes it easier to see how a small timing change turns a miss into a full capture.

Once you can repeat the move, try it in a normal match. Find an opponent by a virus, check your angle and only then split.
